Made to Measure

Orchid’s made-to-measure service allows a free rein to reproduce Orchid’s own collections, or pieces of similar design, but to different dimensions.

There is an £80 administrative charge for this service and a 50% deposit is required to secure each piece. Shipping charges will be applied, depend upon whether the order is to be included in a pending Orchid shipment or whether a special shipment is needed.

Chinese

Reproduction pieces are made using reclaimed wood, usually elm, where possible. A choice of pewter or gold coloured brass hardware for door and drawer furniture, which can be decorative or plain, is available.

The lacquer process is the same as that displayed in Orchid’s showrooms. Samples of colours are available in-store and pieces in Orchid’s collections can usually be matched.

Beds can be made to any size. Orchid does not stock mattresses but non-standard mattress sizes are available from specialist manufacturers.

Indonesian teak

Orchid’s teak collections are manufactured in Indonesia mainly using reclaimed wood from old houses in remote villages, which are now being replaced using modern building materials. Orchid’s staff can advise on designs and construction of made-to-measure pieces.

Pieces can have the natural pale finish,this is simply sanded teak which is pale in colour enhancing the natural smooth grain, or can be stained a rich dark brown. Both finishes are on display in Orchid’s showroom and on the website.

For a different colour it is recommended that pieces be left unfinished and then polished on arrival in the UK to the desired colour. Orchid’s restorers offer this service for an additional fee.

Beds and dining tables are manufactured ‘knock-down’. All parts for assembly are included.

It is the customer’s responsibility to check dimensions will fit the required space. Large pieces such as wardrobes, dressers and book-cases are usually constructed as complete units, prior to order confirmation access should be carefully checked including doorways and staircases.
